Why FLL is the cruiser's airport

The proximity is genuinely unusual. From the arrivals curb to the terminal gangway can be under twenty minutes on a quiet morning. Many South Florida sailings are marketed from Fort Lauderdale for exactly this reason, even when Miami is only thirty miles away.

Terminals and where to be dropped

Port Everglades has numbered cruise terminals, and the port road system is one way in sections. Tell your driver the terminal number rather than the ship name, since drivers know the numbers and not always the current ship assignments.

Terminals 2, 4, 18, 19, 21, 25, 26 and 29 handle most sailings, and their entrances differ, so confirm before you set off.

Pre cruise hotels

Many hotels along 17th Street and near the airport offer cruise packages that include parking and a shuttle to the port. For an early sailing after an evening flight, this is often cheaper and calmer than a same day arrival.

Practical points

  • Embarkation traffic peaks between 10:00 and 13:00, when several ships board at once.
  • Disembarkation mornings clog the port road, so allow an hour to reach the airport even though it is close.
  • Do not book a return flight before 11:30 on disembarkation day.
  • Rideshare pickups at the port use designated zones, not the terminal curb.
